How we support seniors

The elderly need support, and this need intensifies as dependency progresses as a result of chronic illness or disability.

The “W Trosce o Życie” Foundation, long before there was talk of deinstitutionalizing care and health services in Poland, felt that the home was the best place for a sick, suffering person to feel better and return to independence. Our own corners, the faces of family and neighbors give us a sense of security, belonging and continuity in our lives.

That’s why the Foundation has been doing its best since its inception in 2009 to support and improve the quality of life of terminally ill, dependent and disabled people in their places of residence.

Why do we support seniors?

  • nearly 10 million Poles are the elderly (25.6% of the society)
  • 19.2% of people 65+ (one in five) are at risk of poverty or social exclusion in Poland
  • 44% of people 65+ have difficulties in carrying out everyday activities and need the support of another person
  • 34% of people aged 75+ live alone
  • PLN 1,461.72 gross is the average pension paid from KRUS
  • approx. 1 million elderly people in Poland live on less than PLN 1,500 gross per month
  • 45 days is the waiting time for the hospice
  • One in three people waiting for an inpatient hospice and one in six in a stationary hospice dies without help and suffering
